Harbor seal severe wound rescue

Posted on October 23, 2017

Yesterday,  our team responded to a female harbor seal weanling (approximately 5 months old) in our own back yard—a few hundred yards from the  Center, on the shore of Odiorne Point State Park. She was thin, alert and responsive, and clearly suffering from a severe mouth wound. It’s hard to say at this time what may have caused the wound, but it’s likely extremely painful and has likely caused her to be unable to feed.

This morning we transported her to MA for rehabilitation. Her prognosis is extremely guarded at this time, due to the severity of her mouth wounds. But we will continue to update as we know any more.
