James Lynch first became engaged with Seacoast Science Center as a freshman in high school when his family spent the summer with his grandparents who lived in Rye. Growing up in the Greater Boston area, James and his siblings, Julia, Brian and Katherine, share a passion for nature, and together with their parents, have a special bond with SSC.

As the eldest child, James shares that his role at SSC was the perfect fit for him. Being a Counselor in Training then Camp Counselor, James felt right at home serving as an educator and mentor. The Lynch family bonded over stories of their time at SSC, and the siblings learned how to shift their relationship from brothers and sisters to colleagues, as all four worked in our summer camp program through the years.

James thinks of Seacoast Science Center as his extended family, and he came “back home” to work as a Camp Counselor with the Stewards program once again in the summer of 2024. Inspired by his time here, James is pursuing a career in child psychology, currently doing his Postdoctoral Fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital. More specifically, he is currently conducting Attention Deficit Disorder and Autism assessments for his young patients. His course of study includes an undergraduate degree in neuroscience from Boston University and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from University of Cincinnati. While enjoying his time in the midwest, James is happy to be back on the east coast.

“My years at Seacoast Science Center taught me the value of curiosity-driven, hands-on learning; respect for nature; and the power of being in a supportive environment,” shares James. “It sparked my interest in learning more about children’s cognitive development and behavior.”

“My connection with Henry Burke (SSC Director of Camp and Programs) and Rich Harty (Assistant Camp Director and Marine Fellows Educator) will be lifelong! I have such great respect for them and for the Center.” I will continue to support SSC in any way I can in the future.

We thank you, James, for the opportunity to learn how SSC has impacted your life, for your contribution here at Center, and for the critically important work you are doing for the well-being of children.
