Seacoast Science Center has a long track record of offering safe Environmental Day Camp programs that cultivate marine and environmental education through first-hand interactions, leveraging its beautiful location in Odiorne Point State Park. With 135 seaside acres as their outdoor classroom, and seven distinctly different habitats to explore, campers gain a deep understanding of the world around them.
“We’ve taken every measure to continue to offer a safe camp experience during the pandemic because we not only understand how much families depend on us for their child care needs, but also because we understand the need for children to interact with their peers, spend time in nature, and have fun during this stressful time,” said SSC Camp Director Henry Burke. “Our camps have always focused on outdoor discovery, and that has been key for safety this past year.”
Vacation week camps, for children in grades K-5, are offered during both NH and ME/MA public school vacation weeks, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with optional after-care until 5:30 p.m. Vacation Camp is offered during winter break, February 18-22 and February 25-March 1, and spring break, April 19-23 and April 26-30.
Summer camp sessions are offered for the following age groups: Treks 4 Tots (for ages 4-5, with full-day or half-day option) ; Seaside Safari (for grades K-5); and Safari Stewards (a field trip-based program for grades 6-8). Summer camp hours run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with both pre- and after-care options are available for all sessions, excluding Treks.
Each camp session is based around a different theme. The Center’s exhibits, scientific instruments, and teaching technologies reinforce outdoor learning. Lessons, activities, art projects, games, and stories combine for a full day of learning, excitement and fun!
Marine Biology Camp for High School Students is offered for two 1-week sessions during the summer only. Marine Biology Camp allows science-minded high school students to gain in-depth practical experience and insight into marine science careers.
