Do you enjoy scavenger hunts or going outside to explore with friends and family? Like an extreme nature scavenger hunt, our annual BioBlitz event offers exciting opportunities for all ages to gain knowledge and hone skills in their favorite areas of nature here at Odiorne Point State Park! Throughout the entire day, on Sunday, September 12th, 2021, you can join experts, and together, search for all kinds of plants and animals that live here: birds, plants, mammals, insects, mushrooms, and more. With seven distinct natural habitats to survey, there’s something for everyone!

This short video provides an overview of the event:

Following these steps will get you on your way to exploring nature like a pro!

#1 Download the iNaturalist app on your smartphone or tablet and follow the instructions in our iNaturalist Quick Guide

#2 Use our Backyard Bioblitz! Scavenger Hunt  to find different creatures within your community.

#3 Now that you’ve found some plants, animals, birds, insects (and more!) on your hunt, it’s time to open up your iNaturalist app to identify (ID) your observations and record them! First, choose something wild from your hunt that you found really interesting. Next, take a clear, full frame photo. iNaturalist will generate species suggestions based on your photo and location. Once you’ve made an ID, you can use iNaturalist to learn more about it. Keep trying with other interesting finds and be sure to join us at BioBlitz! on September 12.

#4 Get creative and color our BioBlitz Coloring page

#5 Visit the BioBlitz! page on our website to learn more and sign up to join us!
