Are you a high school sophomore, junior or senior? Come get your feet wet and hands dirty learning new skills, collecting data, and experiencing what it’s like to work in the field!
As a Community Science Fellow, you will:
- actively engage in ongoing community science projects
- meet scientists working on local and regional investigations, such as seine netting, snorkeling, and beach profiling
- gain a greater understanding of the field of Marine Biology through inquiry and investigation
- practice field data collection and different survey methods
- discover how humans impact the ocean
- learn about challenges facing our climate and discover how you can contribute to a sustainable and healthy ocean
- engage in research, improve scientific skills and practices, and foster your special interests
- be part of a community of high school students interested in Marine Science
- gain insight that will help you pursue a career in the marine sciences
Program Schedule:
June 21: Beach profiling (surveying for coastal erosion) and beach clean up
June 29 (Thursday): Shoals Marine Laboratory trip
July 12: Invasive species survey
July 26: Snorkeling, seine netting, and eel grass surveys
August 9: UNH Coastal Laboratory
August 23: Kayaking, water quality testing, and plankton monitoring
