Join naturalist and Program Director Henry Burke on an exclusive SSC eco-adventure of a lifetime! This trip’s itinerary focuses on Atlantic island ecology and marine wildlife viewing, with plenty of activities that will spark your curiosity, enhance your understanding, and inspire conservation of our Blue Planet and the Scottish Isles. We have planned full days of exploration and reserved lovely accommodations, so all you have to do is come along with us!

 

Activities Include:

  • Explore the culturally and historically important part of the Edinburgh, Old Town.
  • Enjoy a full-day tour of the southern part of Shetland Island, with the most amazing panoramic views, history, and wildlife.
  • Stop at Scalloway and travel across from Mousa to take in a view one of the best-preserved brochs in the world.
  • Visit St Ninian’s Isle, the 4000-year-old Jarlshof settlement, and the Crofthouse museum.
  • Visit the wild cliffs of Sumburgh Head and have a close look at Sumburgh Lighthouse, Shetland ponies, seabirds, and other wildlife
  • Take a boat tour around Bressay and the cliffs of the famous Noss National Nature Reserve. 
  • Enjoy Shetland’s plethora of seabirds and seals, as well as spectacular views, against the stunning backdrop of the Noss cliffs. 
  • Get close up to beautiful blue-eyed gannets, guillemots, black guilldemots, puffins, razorbills, gulls, shags and skuas; hope to see porpoises, whales, otter, and dolphins.
  • Tour the Northern Isles, to Unst and Yell.
  • See a 400-year-old Muness Castle, the ex-RAF base of Saxa Vord, where there is now a brewery and gin distillery.
  • Continue to Haroldswick boat museum and visit the reconstructed Viking longhouse and longship created by Viking Unst.
  • Enjoy a cetacean watching tour in Orkney, one of the best places to see whales and dolphins in the UK.
  • Enjoy a kayaking tour along Orkney’s spectacular coastline or a Coastal Wild Orkney Walk
  • Immerse into the fantastic nature of Scotish lands and set off on the wildlife watching on the Black Isle.
  • Travel to Charnomy Ness to take a chance to witness all sorts of interesting animals and plants on the way.
  • Stay at the Dalhousie Castle Hotel, a lovely castle located near the capital Edinburgh.
