Run, race or walk to help save the seals!
Date: Thursday, October 1, 2020 - Sunday, October 4, 2020
Time: 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Thank you to our dedicated runners, walkers, and MMR supporters who chose to either run onsite this year or create their own route close to home. Stay tuned for details for our 2021 Rescue Run.
About the Race
The Rescue Run: Race for Marine Mammals is our largest annual fundraising event to benefit our Marine Mammal Rescue program. On a typical year, we’d come together to cheer you on as we celebrate your support of our wildlife conservation and educational outreach work. While we won’t gather this time, we’ll still be there in spirit, cheering you on behind the scenes!
Thank you in advance for supporting our work!
Odiorne Point State Park Trail
The Rescue Run: Race for Marine Mammals trail route features varied terrain—you’ll run through the forest, by the rocky shore, across a sandy beach, and alongside historic military fortifications—and enjoy sweeping vistas of the Gulf of Maine and Little Harbor.
A team of Seacoast Science Center staff and volunteers will be at the Center, October 1-4, from 9:00 am-4:00 pm, to check you in before your run, and for race shirt pick-up and purchases. You can also view the trail map and purchase other merchandise to support MMR, like a plush seal or kid’s Future Responder tee shirt. Race shirts will be also available for purchase for $12, while supplies last.
Please remember that dogs are not allowed in Odiorne Point State Park. Children, age 12 and under, must be accompanied by an adult on the 5K.
If you would like to run the Odiorne Point State Park Trail, you must make a reservation after you have registered for the race. There is no additional fee for registered participants to run in Odiorne Point State Park.
Running your own 5K Trail Route
If you choose to participate remotely and are planning on submitting your time, we ask that you run a measured 5K cross-country trail route.
5K Trail Race Prizes
Whether you run on- or off-site, prizes will be awarded for the fastest times, best ocean themed costume, and coolest marine shaped route (think fish, whale, seal, seastar, etc)! In order to be eligible for top-finisher prizes, you must submit your 5K trail race times to Millennium Running (link to come) between Thursday, October 1 and Sunday, October 4 by 11pm.
To submit a photograph of your run, costume, or race route, email it [email protected] along with a brief description so we can share it with our fans on social media.
Kids Fun Run
Kids can also run on-site or create their own challenge and create a course. On-site, the Kids Fun Run features a 300 yard dash and a half mile run for children ages 12 and under. Every child that participates in the Fun Run wins a prize!

Here is what the Rescue Run looks like during a typical year:
After the race, stay to join the Blue Ocean Society for a beach clean-up at 11:00am! We’ll comb the shore of Odiorne to collect and record data on trash we pick up and help keep our ocean healthy, ensuring it does not become marine debris.
