Monarch Butterfly

The monarch butterfly, with its striking black and orange wings, is a vital pollinator but currently endangered due to declining numbers. In 2025, SSC will host programs aligned with Journey North’s Monarch Migration & Milkweed Phenology Project, inviting visitors to become citizen scientists, and track monarch migration and milkweed presence.

Free visitor programs, running 20-30 minutes in length, will be held on July 23rd, 24th, and 25th at 11 am, focusing on monarch lifecycle stages. These brief programs lead up to an extended Guided Nature Program, “All About Monarchs,”  on July 26th from 11 am to 12:30 pm, covering monarch biology, lifecycle, migration, milkweed plants and other habitats, and data documentation for Journey North’s monitoring project. Read more in our updated blog post and plan to join us!
