Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day

Come and celebrate World Migratory Bird Day with us this Saturday, May 10th! This special day aims to raise awareness of the challenges faced by migratory birds and to highlight conservation efforts. It’s also a fantastic chance to explore Odiorne Point State Park and discover various bird species!

Between 10am-2pm this Saturday, we will share information on safely viewing birds, including guides, tools, and tips on what to look for. Our naturalists will also engage visitors in a fun challenge to see how many bird species we can spot in the Park. The individual who identifies the most birds in our SSC Birding Challenge will have the chance to win four admission passes to visit SSC!

Participation is FREE with paid admission, and instructions for joining the SSC Birding Challenge will be available at the Center (and short summary below). We hope you can join us for some high flying fun all about birds!

About Seacoast Science Center 2025 Birding Challenge

To celebrate World Migratory Bird Day on Saturday, May 10, 2025, we are excited to host a visitor program, including a friendly contest to see how many bird species we can discover in Odiorne Point State Park. This contest will run from 10am to 2pm, and your admission ticket to the SSC on Saturday grants you entry into our challenge.

Join us at the Center to learn about safe birdwatching practices, what to look for, the species you might encounter, and the guides and tools utilized by birders. Afterward, venture into the Park, capture photos of the birds you observe, and return to the Center to contribute to our whiteboard with the bird species you’ve identified. If you need assistance, our naturalists will be available to help with identification!

Once your visit is complete, please email Naturalist Olivia at o.deleault@sscnh.org by 4pm with your bird photos as the total number of species you spotted on May 10, 2025. The participant who identifies the most bird species in the Park Saturday will have a chance to win four admission passes to SSC. In case of a tie, a name will be drawn. Additional information about our challenge will be available at the Center when you arrive on Saturday, 5/10.
