1992-2012 Seacoast Science Center Celebrates 20 Years.

Our 20th birthday is an opportunity to reflect on how far we've come since we opened our doors on a sparkling June morning in 1992, launching "good ship SSC." Since then, we have weathered changing sea conditions and economic storms well. Our ship is sound and operating costs are almost covered by our operating income: just 10% comes from contributions.

Hands-on, salty-socks field trips inspired the creation of the Center and continue to be at the core of our educational mission. In 2012 we set a new record: we conducted school programs for 27,000 students. Since 1992 over one half million students have learned about the science of the sea through Seacoast Science Center programs.

That earned income is a strong financial anchor; but without your help, we would remain just that: at anchor. We are stable, but only with your help can we sail forward. Last year we reached a record 27,000 students and the need for enhanced classroom science education continues to grow. Won't you help? Together, we can reach more students at a time when reaching out is more critical than ever.

All Seacoast Science Center programs engage children's natural curiosity about the world around them, enrich their connection to nature and teach them to be stewards of the environment and thoughtful citizens. Whether you become a member, make a donation, sponsor an event or volunteer your time, your commitment to the Center will help us continue to thrive.
