All are welcome to attend the Wash Day Project exhibition opening reception on Friday, November 14 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. At 6:00 p.m., Project Laundry List's Executive Director Alexander Lee will speak. Project Laundry List is a non-profit organization that demonstrates how personal choices make a difference for the Earth and its people.

The Wash Day Project Art Exhibition will be on display through December 18.

About the Wash Day Project:

The Center is collaborating with the Rye Energy Committee to encourage local residents to reduce their carbon footprint. The venture, which began this past spring, fits perfectly with the Center's Going Green Initiative.

Rye Energy Committee member Mimi White approached SSC's Volunteer Coordinator Michele Wensman last February about working together to challenge and inspire Rye residents to use less energy. They also wanted educate as many people as possible about the dangers of greenhouse gases and in.

The synergistic planning process resulted in an exciting new event for the two organizations: Wash Day Project. The Project challenged Rye residents to hang their laundry out to dry during the months of July and August and to welcome local artists into their yard to paint their clothesline. Approximately 30 households participated and over 15 artists created paintings; many artists painted at more than one household.

According to White, "The beautiful Wash Day images are so inspirational. The clothesline is not only functional, and a practical way to reduce your carbon footprint, it serves as the perfect metaphor."

The exhibition of paintings will be on display through December 19 and all works are for sale. The proceeds benefit the Rye Energy Committee, the Seacoast Science Center and the artist. Purchased paintings can be picked up on December 20, allowing time for you to give one (or more) as a wonderful holiday gift.

More information on ways to reduce your carbon footprint will be available on Saturday, November 15 during the Science and Nature Extravaganza and Rye Day Celebration. Please see below for details.
